One sample 1099-NEC record. The XML is what the converter writes for it. Read the FIRE to IRIS guide
Every record is checked before anything leaves.
Each error names the record and the field. One failing record holds back the whole file, so nothing incomplete reaches the IRS.
- ErrorRecord 2: [payee.state] Payee state "" must be a valid 2-letter US state/territory code
- ErrorRecord 3: [payee.tin] Invalid payee TIN: "*****3456"
- ErrorRecord 4: [payee.zip] Payee ZIP "0324" must be 5 or 9 digits (check for leading zeros dropped by spreadsheet software)
- TINs by type. An SSN starting 000 or 666 fails, and so does an EIN starting 00.
- States, ZIP codes and the amount codes each form allows.
- ZIP codes that lost a leading zero in a spreadsheet.
- One error report (CSV) for every file in your season.
- Forms IRISfile cannot file yet stay in your results with the reason. None are dropped.
Pay per form. Every output is included.
Converting and checking are free. A form is paid once, when you take its first output, and the quote sits right under the buttons.

- IRS A2A XML
- The transmission IRISfile files for you. A large batch splits into as many as it needs.
- IRIS Portal CSV
- For 1099-NEC, MISC and INT, if you upload to the IRS Portal yourself.
- Recipient Copy B
- 1099-NEC and MISC on the official IRS form, as a PDF to print.
- Massachusetts file
- In pilot. A Pub 1220 file for 1099-NEC and MISC that you upload to MassTaxConnect.
Each payment is at least $50. A form you paid for stays paid when you upload it again. See the rates
Filed under our TCC. The receipt stays with the file.
IRISfile files as your transmitter, so your firm and your clients never apply for a Transmitter Control Code.
- A summary to check first: filer, masked EIN, form, tax year, records and transmissions.
- A real filing needs your tick on “I reviewed the return data”, because it cannot be recalled.
- Each transmission keeps its UTID and IRS receipt ID on the file’s row.
- The IRS answer arrives as a code: A accepted, E accepted with errors, P partially accepted, R rejected.

What IRISfile files today.
Only forms we can file correctly produce XML. The rest stay in your results with the reason, until we can.
