The IRS's own IRIS Taxpayer Portal charges no fee. It needs your own TCC and one hand-driven session per submission, up to 100 returns each. Paid software replaces those sessions.
Among the six vendors compared here, list e-file fees for 250 forms run from $357.50 to $595.50. How a vendor counts forms across your clients moves your total more than its headline rate does.
Track1099 now appears as Avalara 1099 & W-9. Its signup links on track1099.com point to track1099.com/signup, and its pricing page sits on avalara.com.

E-file price at 50, 250 and 1,000 forms
Last verified October 21, 2026. Each total adds every form at the rate of its own tier. The figures cover federal e-filing only, and they assume the vendor counts all your clients' forms on one ladder. The IRISfile total includes one $99.00 license seat, which it needs to file and print. The next section tests that assumption.
| Vendor | 50 forms | 250 forms | 1,000 forms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tax1099 | 50 forms$137.50 | 250 forms$595.50 | 1,000 forms$1,310.50 |

The totals use each vendor's published list rates. The differences below may matter more than the totals.
The Tax1099 total at 1,000 forms uses its chart. Its worked example would give $1,453.00.
Rates behind the totals
- Tax1099
- $2.99 for forms 1 to 20, $2.59 for 21 to 150, $1.99 for 151 to 250, $1.42 for 251 to 500, and $0.72 for 501 to 1,000. Above 1,000 you ask for a quote. Pay as you go has no annual fee. Teams costs $249 a year and Scale costs $349 a year; Scale adds API access. The page's worked example for 600 forms prices forms 151 to 500 at $1.99, which disagrees with its chart, so we used the chart. By the example's method, 1,000 forms would cost $1,453.00. - Track1099 (Avalara 1099 & W-9)
- $3.10 for forms 1 to 15, $2.30 for 16 to 165, $1.30 for 166 to 500, and $0.63 from form 501. IRS e-filing includes recipient e-delivery, e-corrections and PDF or CSV downloads. TIN matching costs $0.45 a form. An annual subscription is available by quote. track1099.com now presents the product as Avalara 1099 & W-9. Source: Avalara 1099 & W-9 pricing.
- BoomTax
- $4.01 for forms 1 to 13, $2.66 for 14 to 150, $1.75 for 151 to 500, and $1.01 from form 501, with a $49.00 minimum. These are its tax year 2025 rates, as the page labels them. Its calculator asks you to contact sales above 1,000 forms. The rendered page shows these rates only through that calculator. The 1099 plan lists unlimited issuers and unlimited corrections. Source: BoomTax pricing.
- TaxBandits
- $2.75 for forms 1 to 10, $1.75 for 11 to 100, $1.15 for 101 to 250, $1.00 for 251 to 500, and $0.80 for 501 to 2,000. The page shows no minimum. It says that to get volume rates you send all 1099 and W-2 forms in a single submission or buy prepaid credits. Source: TaxBandits pricing.
- 1099 Online
- $3.49 for forms 1 to 20, $2.99 for 21 to 50, $2.19 for 51 to 150, and $1.49 for 151 to 1,000. For 1,000 forms and up the page says to contact sales. It also says its tiers lower the cost “within a single filing”. Source: 1099 Online pricing.
- IRISfile
- $2.60 for forms 1 to 10, $1.65 for forms 11 to 100, $1.09 for forms 101 to 250, $0.95 for forms 251 to 500, $0.76 from form 501. A form is priced by its place in your count for the tax year, across every payer EIN, and its filing is paid once. A $99.00 license per user per tax year covers printing and downloads, the Portal CSV is charged like a filing, and a correction of a filed form is free. See IRISfile pricing.
How each vendor counts forms across clients
A firm with 40 clients doesn't file one batch. Whether the tiers span the whole firm or restart for each client can change the bill more than any rate in the table.
TaxBandits says you get volume rates by sending all forms in a single submission or by buying prepaid credits. 1099 Online says its tiers lower the cost “within a single filing”. The Tax1099, Avalara and BoomTax pages don't say how tiers treat separate clients, so ask before you buy.
IRISfile prices each form by its place in your count for the tax year, across every payer EIN. The table spreads the same forms across clients. The 1099 Online columns show its rates both ways, because its page ties tiers to a single filing.
| Firm | IRISfile, license + one payment | IRISfile, license + a payment per client | 1099 Online, one filing | 1099 Online, a filing per client |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 clients, 5 forms each (50 forms) | IRISfile, license + one payment$191.00 | IRISfile, license + a payment per client$191.00 | 1099 Online, one filing$159.50 | 1099 Online, a filing per client$174.50 |
| 25 clients, 10 forms each (250 forms) | IRISfile, license + one payment$437.00 | IRISfile, license + a payment per client$437.00 | 1099 Online, one filing$527.50 | 1099 Online, a filing per client$872.50 |
| 50 clients, 20 forms each (1000 forms) | IRISfile, license + one payment$1,054.50 | IRISfile, license + a payment per client$1,054.50 | 1099 Online, one filing$1,645.00 | 1099 Online, a filing per client$3,490.00 |
At 25 clients with 10 forms each, IRISfile costs $17.48 per client on average, license included, in one payment.
State filing, corrections and mailing

What IRISfile offers a multi-client firm
- Upload the file you already produce
- Drop the Publication 1220 fixed-width file from your accounting or payroll software, or a CSV or Excel file. IRISfile reads it, validates every record, and lists any form it can't file yet with a reason. BoomTax's page says it accepts FIRE files too, so this isn't unique to us.
- Validate for free, license the downloads
- Upload, convert and validate cost nothing. A $99.00 license per tax year covers the A2A XML and the Copy B PDFs. The filing fee applies to each form, whether we file it or you upload our IRIS Portal CSV. The Portal CSV and Copy B PDFs cover 1099-NEC, MISC and INT. One failing record withholds all output for its file, so every error is fixed before anything is filed.
- One count across every client
- Forms are priced by their place in your tax-year count across all payer EINs. There is no EIN limit. A file with more than one payer EIN splits into a separate file per payer, so each client keeps its own XML and copies.
- No TCC application
- IRISfile files under the PixelCove Transmitter Control Code, so you skip the IRS application, which takes up to 45 calendar days. TaxBandits and BoomTax say the same about their own TCCs.
- Combined Federal/State Filing
- IRISfile writes CF/SF elections into the A2A XML for 31 states and DC. 1099-NEC, MISC, INT, DIV and R each passed CF/SF in the IRS sandbox. An election for a state outside the program is dropped with a warning. CF/SF does not satisfy a state with its own filing rule: Massachusetts requires its own report even with CF/SF.
- Massachusetts, in pilot
- IRISfile flags each record that owes Massachusetts an annual 1099 report. It marks the status unknown when a payer or payee state is missing. Massachusetts file generation is in pilot. It covers 1099-NEC and MISC originals for tax years 2025 and 2026, billed per form. You upload the Publication 1220 file to MassTaxConnect yourself. IRISfile does not file with any state itself, and no other state is checked.
Where the other vendors do more
- Form types
- Pricing pages list W-2 (Tax1099, TaxBandits, 1099 Online, BoomTax), 1098 (Tax1099, TaxBandits, 1099 Online) and ACA 1095 forms (Tax1099, 1099 Online, BoomTax). IRISfile files 1099-NEC, MISC, INT, DIV, R, B and S. 1099-R needs a box 7 code. 1099-S files for tax year 2026 only, with no digital-asset proceeds, state data or voids.
- State filing
- Every competitor above lists CF/SF or state filing. IRISfile has CF/SF elections and the Massachusetts pilot, and no direct state filing.
- Recipient mail
- Every competitor above sells postal mail for recipient copies. IRISfile gives you the Copy B PDF for 1099-NEC, MISC and INT.
- IRIS filing today
- TaxBandits' page says it has been IRIS-ready since 2024. BoomTax's page says it converts uploaded FIRE files and files them through IRIS. We did not capture IRIS claims for the other vendors. IRISfile submits to the IRS from the app starting with the 2027 filing season; until then it produces the XML and the Portal CSV.
- Imports
- Tax1099 lists 12 or more integrations, including QuickBooks and Xero. IRISfile takes files you upload.
Which route fits
- A few payers, each under 100 returns
- Use the free Portal. It costs nothing, but it needs your own TCC and one hand-driven session per submission, up to 100 returns each. See the Portal limits guide.
- W-2, ACA or 1098 forms in the same account
- Pick a vendor whose pricing page lists them. W-2 appears on Tax1099, TaxBandits, 1099 Online and BoomTax. 1098 appears on Tax1099, TaxBandits and 1099 Online. 1095 appears on Tax1099, 1099 Online and BoomTax. IRISfile does not file them.
- A FIRE file out of payroll, ERP or property software
- IRISfile accepts it today. BoomTax's page says it accepts FIRE files today, and TaxBandits lists it as coming soon. We did not find FIRE upload on the other pricing pages. Compare the add-ons you need and how each vendor counts forms across clients.
- Many small clients
- Ask each vendor whether tiers span your clients or restart for each filing. The answer changes the total more than the rate does.
- State filing in several states
- Vendors with direct state filing are ahead of IRISfile. CF/SF forwards returns and doesn't settle every state; see the state filing guide.

IRS submission from the app starts with the 2027 filing season.
