## Where the dates come from

The statutory dates for each form are in the [General Instructions for Certain Information Returns](https://www.irs.gov/instructions/i1099gi), in the section on when to file. The same instructions give the next-business-day rule, and [Internal Revenue Code section 7503](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/7503) defines a legal holiday. Extensions of time to file are on [Form 8809](https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-8809). Extensions to furnish recipient copies are on [Form 15397](https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/extension-of-time-to-furnish-statements-to-recipients). The 45-day TCC processing time is in [Publication 5717](https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p5717.pdf).

The finder was last checked against the tax year 2026 instructions in September 2026. For the reasons behind each shift, the penalty tiers, and the mistakes that cost firms the most, read [1099 deadlines for 2027](https://irisfile.co/guides/1099-deadlines-2027).

## Questions

**When are 1099s due in 2027?**: For tax year 2026, 1099-NEC is due to recipients and to the IRS on Monday, February 1, 2027. Most other 1099 recipient copies are also due February 1. 1099-B, 1099-DA, 1099-S, and 1099-MISC with an amount in box 8 or 10 are due to recipients on Tuesday, February 16. The IRS copies of every form except 1099-NEC are due March 1 on paper and March 31 electronically.

**Why do the dates move from January 31 and February 15?**: When a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, a return filed or furnished on the next business day is on time. January 31, 2027 is a Sunday. February 15, 2027 is Presidents Day. February 28, 2027 is a Sunday.

**Which holidays does the finder count?**: Weekends and the legal holidays in the District of Columbia that can fall between January and early May: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Inauguration Day in inauguration years, Washington's Birthday, and DC Emancipation Day on April 16. Internal Revenue Code section 7503 defines a legal holiday as a DC legal holiday, which is why Emancipation Day counts.

**Does a Form 8809 extension move the recipient deadline?**: No. Form 8809 extends only the date to file with the IRS. To furnish recipient copies late you file a separate request, Form 15397, by fax no later than the recipient due date. It is not automatic.

**How is the TCC apply-by date worked out?**: It is 45 calendar days before the IRS due date. The IRS tells applicants to allow up to 45 days to process an IRIS Transmitter Control Code application.

**Is the calendar file uploaded or stored anywhere?**: No. The dates are calculated in your browser and the .ics file is built there. Nothing is sent to IRISfile.
