# About IRISfile

IRISfile is a 1099 e-filing service that converts FIRE, CSV, and Excel files to IRS IRIS XML and files them for tax professionals.

## What IRISfile does

### FIRE file conversion

Upload the same fixed-width Pub 1220 file you sent to FIRE. IRISfile parses and validates every record, then writes IRIS XML to the IRS Pub 5718 schema.

### CSV and Excel import

Upload a spreadsheet of 1099 records instead of a FIRE file. IRISfile validates each row and produces the same IRIS XML, plus an IRIS Portal CSV for forms the Portal accepts.

### Validation report

Every upload returns a record-by-record list of errors and warnings before any XML is written. Records IRISfile cannot file yet are listed in the results, never dropped.

### IRS A2A filing

IRISfile submits IRIS XML to the IRS through the A2A API under its own Transmitter Control Code. A2A filing covers 1099-NEC, MISC, INT, DIV, R, B, and S, and goes live for the 2027 filing season.

## What makes IRISfile different

### Free to check, a license to download

Upload, convert, and validate without paying. A $99 license per tax year covers printing and downloads. Filing is per form, including Portal CSV uploads, from $2.60 down to $0.76 as your season grows, and a form is never charged twice.

### No TCC application for your practice

IRISfile files under the PixelCove IRIS Transmitter Control Code, which the IRS approved in April 2026. Your practice and your clients skip the IRS TCC application and its wait of up to 45 days.

### Your FIRE files still work

IRISfile reads the Pub 1220 fixed-width format directly. The file your system already exports for FIRE becomes IRIS XML with no re-keying.

### It will not file a return it cannot file correctly

IRISfile writes XML only for the forms it can file correctly today, and validates that XML against the IRS schema. Other records are reported back to you by name.

### One file, many payers

A file with many payer EINs splits into one filing per client. Each client gets its own XML, its own validation results, and its own records.

## Who uses IRISfile

- Multi-client tax practices and CPA firms that file 1099s for many payers
- Solo preparers who file for a single payer EIN
- Transmitters that sent FIRE files and must move to IRIS before FIRE closes
- Filers above the IRIS Portal cap of 100 returns, who need A2A filing

### How IRISfile started

Jon and Scott started IRISfile in April 2026. The IRS is [shutting down the FIRE filing system on December 31, 2026](https://www.irs.gov/filing/e-file-information-returns-with-iris), and every 1099 transmitter has to move to IRIS. IRISfile is PixelCove’s first vertical product.

Jon builds the software with the AI agent systems PixelCove built in-house. Scott sets its requirements from the accounting side. [About PixelCove](https://pixelcove.co/about)
